Treasures

I wanted to continue today looking at how we can pull down these false strongholds that bind believers from receiving the beautiful benefits of living full in the spirit and finding that peace.

First, we have to believe they exist in our life and we need to name them. I am sure you have heard the saying, "confession is good" for the soul, and so it is.

Our most powerful offensive weapon in tearing down these strongholds is prayer, and God's word- combined with faith. We must come to God in prayer, and trust He will demolish these strongholds and replace them with the desire for heavenly treasures.

One common area that can entrap us today is materialism- the acquiring and maintaining of stuff and more stuff. Having nice things is not in itself the stronghold- it is the idea that our worth and value lies connected to these things.

We spend way too much time working for, wishing for, and acquiring more. We become enslaved to the pursuit of riches instead of seeking God and his kingdom first.

Your barometer, given to you in God's word, says-
"Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal.  For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."  Matthew 6:19-21

The heavenly treasure should be our goal- and that comes from giving away our stuff to help other's in need, for Jesus also said-

"Sell your possessions, and give to the needy. Provide yourselves with moneybags that do not grow old, with a treasure in the heavens that does not fail, where no thief approaches and no moth destroys. For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also." Luke 12:33-34
